The Yiddish words on the top of the building are some colloquial Yiddish terms that have found their way into contemporary American English, thus the name of the installation “The Joys of Yiddish (A small encyclopedia)”. The colour of the text and the background (yellow on black), recalls the armbands and patches that the Nazis used to stigmatize the Jewish population. Quite reminiscent, as the Haus der Kunst was constructed during the NS-Era, opened in 1937, and is indeed in the style of Nazi monumentalism.
