They still have sometimes an important role in the Romanian politics, for example – the current President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, is one of Transylvanian Saxons. He was born in Sibiu, which used to be a part of the same region as Brașov, but currently is a separate județ. Saxons remaining in Romania are represented by the Democratic Forum of Germans in Romania (FDGR/DFDR), the political party of the president.
