From 13 September 1872, when this station was inaugurated, the railway traffic on the Roman–Galați–București–Pitesti line was put into operation. The station was originally called Târgoviștei Station (because the street called Calea Griviței today was called Calea Târgoviștei at that time) and then in 1888 it took its current name.
