Pilatus-Bahn rolling stock – in 1875, the gentle Rigi was the first Swiss mountain to receive Europe's first mountain railway. After their successful conquest, the task was to tackle the rugged and legendary Pilatus on Lake Lucerne with a mountain railway. Eduard Locher developed a rack and pinion system for this in 1888.
