Burgplatz, a square located directly on the banks of the Rhine in old town. The irregular and spacious open space was created when the city was first expanded. It got its name from its location in front of the former castle, the later Düsseldorf Palace. After numerous fires and destruction over time, the remains were finally removed in 1892 except for the castle tower, which today houses a maritime museum.
