Choorstraat (pronounced: Koorstraat) – the street that runs parallel to the Oudegracht between the Stadhuisbrug and the Zadelstraat. Traditionally, this was the site of a vicus of the Roman fortress Traiectum. The street owes its name to the Buurkerk. In 1586 it was decided to demolish the entire choir section of this church, as it formed an obstacle to traffic, which for years had been in the habit of passing right through the choir. The southern part of the Choorstraat ("choir street") was then constructed on the site of the choir. (previous | next | back to album | 2020:10:03 10:29:24 | 39% of an album)
