The station is located in the center of Elberfeld and is directly connected to the pedestrian zone. Opposite the station on the other side of Bundesallee (B7 highway, which is currently under the pedestrian bridge) are the main train station and bus station.
The station was designed in 1900 by the Berlin architect Bruno Möhring in the forms of Art Nouveau. However, in the 1920s, the previous building could no longer cope with the number of passengers, and the Art Nouveau building was considered obsolete. The new building was completed on 20th March 1926. Renovation work of the station took place between 2020 (as you can see on the photographs) and 2021 (this I read on the Wikipedia).
