The old Passmore Edwards Public Library, currently the home of Bush Theatre, which moved there in 2011, after a new library was opened in 2008 in Westfield London. The theatre was established in 1972 as a showcase for the work of new writers. Speaking of the library, it was one of many public libraries built around the end of the nineteenth century by John Passmore Edwards (1823 - 1911). Edwards was a British journalist, newspaper owner and philanthropist. The library was built in 1895, when Shepherd's Bush was still largely open land, but in the process of being developed to house London's expanding suburbs.
