Before 1950s and 1960s, the Metropolitan railway/line was much longer, almost the whole London-Aylesbury line was part of the Met. However, when the electrification happened, it was decided to shorten the Metropolitan line to Amersham, which the rest of the line being incorporated into, at the time, British Rail.
