You might've noticed the "Arnhem Airborne" banners all over the place. This was made to commemorate the Battle of Arnhem, which took place between 17 and 26th September 1944, as part of the Operation Market Garden. It was fought by the British 1st Airborne Division and Polish 1st Independent Parachute Brigade. The goal was to secure the road bridge in Arnhem... and it failed, as did the whole operation. Nonetheless, it was an important part of the II World War in the Netherlands. The bridge was destroyed shortly after the battle by US Army Air Forces anyway. The first one was BTW destroyed in 1940 by the Dutch Army, it was later rebuilt in the occupied Netherlands. So, the current bridge is the third one, named after the commander of the paratroopers - John Frost Bridge. (previous | next | back to album | 2020:09:24 19:22:45 | 64% of an album)
