Ok, but enough about the art, let's talk about the airport. It was founded in 1932 as an Airfield, but its user back then was mostly military and it's not that interesting (the military part will show itself later anyway), so let's go to 1984, when the civilian terminal was constructed. A now defunct airline BASE Regional Airlines was based there between 1985 and 2001. In 2002 Ryanair entered the airport with its first scheduled service to London Stansted. This was indeed quite revolutionary and later mostly low-costs made this airport the second largest in the Netherlands (behind Schiphol with its 70 mln yearly passenger number, it's hard to compete in this category with them). It's now a focus city/base for Transavia, Wizz Air and Ryanair and an important destination for the southern regions and also for some part of North Rhine-Westphalia (I mean, I used it for a purpuose of getting primarly to a convention in Duesseldorf, my friend did the same last year).
