The current main station building was built in 1956, it was designed by Koen van der Gaast. Some people say that it looks like a Philips radio (a company from Eindhoven, thus the association). However, the similarity is unlikely - there was no device that looked like this at the time. That would also not fit with the views of the architect - he claimed that the station has to comply with the priorities of functionalism. The whole station area (with the square in front of it) should be intended only for a transit - for switching from one mode of transport to another.
