After the Reformation, a nearby church was demolished so that a square was created for the first time. The nave of the Dom then collapsed in 1674 during a tornado. In 1829 the rubble was cleared, so that the square was greatly enlarged. The current paving of the square shows the plan of St. Salvator's Church, the Chapel of the Holy Cross and the lost part of the Dom.
