The building of the Imperial Railway Directorate in Elberfeld (since 1930 Wuppertal) – Reichsbahndirektion Elberfeld/Wuppertal. The history of the directorate goes back to the "Royal Direction of the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn" which was established in 1850 by the Kingdom of Prussia. In 1920 the Prussian State Railways were incorporated into the Deutsche Reichsbahn, and the name was changed to "Reichsbahndirektion Elberfeld". In 1974 the Wuppertal Federal Railway Directorate was dissolved and the routes assigned to it were subordinated to other departments, including the directorates in Essen and Köln.
