Charing Cross, a junction where six routes meet - St Martin's Place (and then Charing Cross Road), the Strand (leading to the City), Northumberland Avenue (to the Thames Embankment, Whitehall (to Parliament Square), The Mall (to the queen) and two short roads leading to Pall Mall. Since the early 19th century it is considered to be the centre of London - maps are centered here (with the name of the city shown exactly here) and from this point all distances to London are measured.
