The booking hall was later modernized in 1974, with the electronic ticket printing installed in 1983. There was however a number of plans to demolish, relocate or highly change the station. The bridge that carries the trains to the station was planned to be partially demolished and reconstructed as a road bridge, converted into a double-deck road/rail bridge and finally to relocate the station on the other side of the Thames with the bridge converted into a road bridge.
