Supreme Court of the UK in the background, among others, probably one of the few institution in the UK with a regular, non-traditional name. It is the final court of appeal in the United Kingdom for civil cases, and for criminal cases from England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It also hears cases of the greatest public or constitutional importance affecting the whole population, including disputes relating to devolution. It was created by the act in 2005 and established in 2009. Previously its function was carried by the House of Lords, it had been exercised by the Lords of Appeal in Ordinary (commonly called "Law Lords"), the 12 judges appointed as members of the House of Lords to carry out its judicial business as the Appellate Committee of the House of Lords. The devolution had however been exercised by the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. (previous | next | back to album | 2020:02:10 15:48:54 | 82% of an album)
