On 30 October 1974, the foundations of higher education were laid in Stara Zagora. Today, the Thrace University is located in the western part of the city. Its structure includes the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Pedagogy and Faculty of Agriculture.
