HELLAvatrip 2022 – εις την Πόλιν – Chapter 9 – Northern Thrace (Stara Zagora, Karnobat, Burgas, Nessebar)

We might've left Istanbul and Turkey, but we haven't left Thrace yet. This historical region is today divided between Turkey, Greece and Bulgaria (the largest part to be precise). The Bulgarian part is called Northern Thrace (Северна Тракия) and and includes the territory south of the Balkan Mountains and east of the Mesta River. The Ottoman Empire created the autonomous province of Eastern Rumelia in Northern Thrace in 1878. The region was annexed by the Principality of Bulgaria in 1885. Its area is 42,073 km².
