Prussia set up five districts in the areas acquired in 1815 south of Aachen: Malmedy and St. Vith (in 1821 the districts of St. Vith and Malmedy were merged), Eupen, Montjoie (later Germanized: Monschau) and the district of Gemünd. The five districts belonged to the Regierungsbezirk Aachen, to province of Rheinland.
