Speaking of Willemsplein, it was constructed in the beginning of the 19th century, where fortifications used to be located. The square contains many historical buildings, the ones on the photo are the beginning of the city centre (Binnenstad). The square forms the connection between the city center and Sonsbeek Park. When first built, the square had different boundaries than today. Previously, the central point was where Gele Rijders Plein (Yellow Riders Square) is now located. Later, the north side of the square was connected to Arnhem Centraal station via the Oude Stationsstraat (Old Station Street, the old means that the street is the old one, not the station) (previous | next | back to album | 2020:09:24 19:27:40 | 88% of an album)
