In Barmen, that was a part of Prussia since 1815, plans to build a larger church for the now rapidly growing Catholic community in 1818 were resumed. The three-aisled, three-bay basilica without a transept and with a tower behind the rectangular choir in the north was consecrated on 16th May 1826. That was the second church.
