Johanneskirche (St John's Church), the largest Protestant (EKD) church in the city. It is well-known for its almost 88 m high tower. In 1824, at the urging of the Prussian authorities, the Lutheran and Reformed congregations in Düsseldorf formed a union. Since then, the plan for a Protestant town church has been in existence. The decision to build was made in 1859, but the construction started in 1875. On December 6, 1881, the Johanneskirche was consecrated.
