8 – Campus Hubland

A small district (but an expanding one) with the main university campus of the Julius Maximilian University, one of the oldest universities in Germany and in the world (established in 1402, technically speaking it was closed between 1415 and 1582, but you are nitpicking). The campus is pretty modern, but as you might've imagined, there are some older buildings in the city centre. Today they are partially occupied by this university and partially by other higher education facilities in the city (Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften Würzburg-Schweinfurt and Hochschule für Musik Würzburg). What's important, the first part of this album is taking place in the new Campus Nord, which was previously the US military base (Leighton Barracks). After the Americans left in January 2009, the university had the opportunity to use part of the former barracks for itself.
